San Diego County Crime Stoppers and investigators from the National City Police Department are asking for the public’s help in identifying and locating the suspect(s) responsible for the murders of 18-year-old Edwin Barrera and 16-year-old Gillian Aguilera.
On October 28, 2022, at about 11:35 p.m., the National City Police Department received numerous 911 calls regarding shots fired followed by two persons down in 1800 block of East 17th Street. Officers arrived on scene and performed life saving efforts on two victims who were struck by the gunfire. The victims were transported to local trauma centers by ambulance. Unfortunately, both succumbed to their injuries and died at the hospital.
Both victims, 18-year-old Edwin Barrera and 16-year-old Gillian Aguilera, had been attending a Halloween party at a residence before the incident. Detectives have been continuously investigating this case since it occurred and believe there are multiple additional witnesses that were at the scene and have not yet been identified or interviewed.
